Google Ads scripts & automation

Find Google Ads scripts and automation resources for the checks and reports you keep doing by hand. Start with one clear task, then read what the script needs and what it changes. Leave time to preview the output before it becomes part of your routine.

Before you choose

Start with one repeatable task

Choose a job with an output you can check: a report, an alert or a defined account change. Read the setup instructions and identify every setting that refers to accounts, dates, thresholds or recipients. A script written for someone else’s workflow needs those assumptions checked before it becomes yours.

Know what preview does and does not cover

Google Ads preview simulates changes made through AdsApp without applying them to campaign data. Calls to other services can still run: emails may be sent and spreadsheets may be updated. Inspect those destinations too, and use a separate test sheet or recipient where appropriate.

Give the script an owner

Decide who checks failures, reviews updates and adjusts the code when the account changes. Keep a record of the version and settings you installed. Google also notes that a script stops running if its original author is removed from the account, so include scripts in access handovers.

Questions worth asking

Do I need to write JavaScript?
You can start from an existing script, but someone still needs to understand its settings, permissions and output. If your team cannot investigate an error, include maintenance support in your shortlist.
When should I choose software instead?
Compare software when the job needs a shared interface, several connected workflows or ongoing support. Bring the same task to both options and compare the total work of running them.
