Before you choose

Separate the consent interface from tag behaviour

A consent management platform helps present and record visitor choices. Google’s consent mode controls how Google tags behave based on those choices; it does not supply the banner itself. Compare both parts of the setup and how your chosen platform connects them.

Test choices across the website

Check what happens before a choice, after acceptance or rejection and when someone changes their preference. Include different page templates, devices and language versions. Ask how the platform detects new tags and how the team is alerted when the implementation changes.

Choose a setup someone can maintain

Compare domain and usage limits, accessibility, language support and the ability to inspect consent records. Identify who owns configuration and technical checks after a website release. Review the setup against the requirements that apply to your business; selecting a product is only one part of that work.

Questions worth asking

Will installing a banner configure every tag?
Check the actual integration. Test Google tags and other tracking separately, including tags added outside your tag manager. A visible banner does not show you how each tag behaves.
